China to provide security gadgets valued at $280m, says Malik

The Chinese government will provide security gadgets valued at $280 million to Pakistan to strengthen the law-enforcement agencies of the country, said Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday.Addressing an award-distribution ceremony for policemen killed in the line of duty, Malik said the Chinese government had made the commitment to provide the gadgets during his recent visit to that country. He said the gadgets included vehicle scanners, mobile scanners and other equipment.The interior minister said that various donors had pledged to provide Pakistan $65 million for the capacity building and improvement of the Police Department.He said the government has decided to recruit 20,000 personnel for Islamabad police.
