UK writer’s book on PAF’s history launched in Capital

Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Tuesday launched a book titled ‘The Pakistan Air Force 1998-2008: A New Dawn’, authored by UK-based journalist Alan Warnes, at PAF Complex, Air Headquarters. A large number of PAF officials, foreigners and diplomats attended the book launch ceremony, outgoing Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Mahmood Ahmed being chief guest.

This is a pictorial book, highlighting achievements of PAF. The author and photographer Alan Warnes captured different fighter jets on camera. Different photographs were taken during Kargil war and others showed the age of counterterrorism (2001-2008), women in PAF, different air bases, monouvering aircrafts etc. Speaking on the occasion, Air Chief Marshal Tanvir Ahmed said launch of the book was an idea of Air Commodore Sarfraz and the author. “It’s a wonderful job done by Alan.

I’m going home and will definitely thoroughly go through this book,” he said. “For common man, this book got to be a colourful and interesting because all photographs tell you everything in a flash of time,” Ahmed said. Author Alan said his passion for writing a book on PAF developed when in 2001 he met PAF chief and formed working relationship with PAF. “PAF is the only air force in the world that is co- designed, co-developed, and co-engineered with the UK,” he said. Dr Ishtiaq Ahmed of Quaide Azam University (QAU) said the book was a comprehensive account on professionalism of PAF. Air Commodore Sarfraz Ahmed Khan said PAF just facilitated Alan but not dictated him. “This is a wonderful book written by a foreigner for PAF. Our infrastructure has not been exposed to him,” he said.

“PAF is the only air force in the world that is co- designed, co-developed, and co-engineered with the UK"..... as the writer correctly observed only uk needs to be replaced by china nowadays.... pakistan truly has come a long way and has mastered the art of paint job thoroughly.. all the chinese planes are painted in PAF colors. ofcourse paint made in china coupled with missiles and nukes which seems to appear out of thin air suddenly without any seemingly R&D or developmental work and touted as indegenously developed..

Indian's cannot digest the fact that Pakistan has won on all fronts. Whether its the JF-17 Thunder aircraft, Al-khalid Tank or Agosta 90B Submarines. All of which are now being Co-developed and manufactured in pakistan. While the Bindi's have failed with their crap lca, arjunk etc. The fact is Pakistani's are not only more intelligent, bold and naturally aggressive than indians; but are more intelligent. BTW all 3rd grade indian weaponry is in fact manufactured by either russians and now isreal. Lastly, the R&D of the JF-17 was infact a joint venture of the Aircraft Manufacturing Factory at pakistan aeronautical complex and china. Who cares what these bindi's think. Let them cry and lets move forward and just nuke them once and for all. As I always say "A nation of cow, monkey and snake worshippers can never harm pakistan". They just don't have the balls.

y pakis r always rude abusive and intolerant of other views??? y u people hate the world so much?? this is a public forum please control ur abusive toungue and don't rave like amad mullah!!

kuldeep singh chauhan and Anonymous @ March 19, 2009 10:52 AM you are more than welcome to discuss the article and give your views but abusive and offensive language is not going to be tolerated against any nation be it India or Pakistan so from now on ant comment with such language will be deleted. So if any one can’t use proper name for any of these nations please don’t try at all.

Now coming back to topic
Pakistan air force did a good job by investing in the JF-17 project but given long history of Pakistani government to simply red flag and then ending all the previous projects to produce jet aircrafts at PAC through budget cuts, this does seems to be a great job. Previously Government of Pakistan was able to cut funding for local assembly & production of projects like F-80 / Mirage F-1/ F-20 / Saber-II/ K-8 etc. Now as far as the Pakistan’s missiles and nuclear weapons programs are concerned I would really like to know why you think that there was no R&D or developmental work? Just remember that absence of information on the internet does not translate into absence of RD or developmental work.

karakoram highway between pakistan and china has become proliferation highway as documented by renowned researchers and commentators.... shaheen ghauri etal are paint jobs on chinese and north korean missiles with similar range and capacity plus pakistan do not have a real industrial nor academic base to develop such complex systems, these missiles are undeployable just used for posturing even nukes....probably chinese supply them sample peices to be tested for every indian missile test... musharraf's biography clearly mentions that during kargil misadventure the paki nukes were not operational... the chinese pakistani iranian north korean collusion is well documented in reputed publications like jane's etc ... the question is not of info availability in internet the question is that such complex projects appear out of nowhere in record time without a failure or malfunction in subsequent tests .... probably american indian french korean scientists are incompetant because they report failure and need for improvements in tests of complex nature like BMD's missiles AWACS etc ... pakistani scientists record has been 100% success in every project they undertake in record time and never seen before success rate so they must be feted and whole world's R&D outsourced to them...these are just paint jobs and no intelligent thinking soul could be fooled by these bogus claim

Ghauri was surely imported one from N.korea as Pakistan need a weapon system that can strike deep inside india and Shaheen-II was taking too much time. But other than that not a single ballistic missile of Pakistan is imported one, surely due to close relation of Pakistan and China one can safely assume there would have been some sort of help from china but that was not something. As far as failures in tests are concerned, answer is simple in Pakistan tests results are only announced after success

I would be very happy to see a example of a Pakistani ballistic missile other then ghauri that is direct copy of Chinese missile and please don’t tell me that janes or---- publications mentions this and it says that this missile is equal to that missile just because some angel told that writer but present facts and figures.

janes says that M-18 and shaheen-II are same when there is hell of difference between two.Shaheen-II with Launch Weight of 25000 kg is totally different missile altogether then M-18 with Launch Weight of only 7000 kg.Same is the case for his article about the Pakistani ballistic missile. So I doubt the janes authenticity

I know about the musharraf's biography which claims that during kargil misadventure the Pakistani nuclear weapons were not operational but at the same time we do have Nawaz Sharif saying that Pakistani nuclear missiles were operational in 1998 and let me also correct that Pakistani nuclear weapons were operation much earlier with PAF F-16 with local modifications, the very reason USA was so pissed that it stopped F-16 and did not agreed to released until mid 2000. Musharraf's biography talks about the Pakistani nuclear missiles not nuclear weapons and remember that fact that Musharraf was trying to get political benefits from domestic audience by saying that he is one who made Pakistani missile operational. There are too many statements from former chiefs of military, ISI , scientists, senators, foreign ministers and prime ministers of Pakistan against his one statement to be taken at face value.

results are announced after tests incredulous ... by international law and bilateral treaties pakistan is required to intimate india b4 every missile test as india does and they have been doing it regularly even during tensions like kargil or ISI financed terrorist attacks on india ..plzzz for chrissakes janes is a respected journal and probably has no axe to grind against some random third world country like pakistan.

As I said I earlier that offensive words like Paki or Bindi are not allowed so refine from using them again and again or i will delete the comment containing it.

Such bilateral agreement were only signed just by mid 2000 and you did not come up with any example of a Pakistani ballistic missile other then ghauri that is direct copy of Chinese missile or how super respectable cant differentiate between Shaheen-II with Launch Weight of 25000 kg is totally different missile altogether then M-18 with Launch Weight of only 7000 kg.

Stick with topic you started instead of running to different topic every time

And there is no international law forcing Pakistan to disclose its missile test to India or any one unless Pakistan wants to test this missile in international waters. As I said earlier there is only a bilateral one that also includes only ballistic missiles ie no cruise missiles and it was signed just around 2005 and before that neither india or Pakistan informed each other always but for political reasons like when you want other side to know about your capabilities or to make sure in time of crisis they don’t take it as first strike.

Unfortunately I will have to disagree with you once again that Indian scientists report failures, I don’t think so that Indian scientists do that , they were just caught some times by Indian army in cases like Arjun MBT, Akash SAM , or Brahmos or LCA in case of IAF etc and could bury the truth. IA have yet not agreed that second test of Block II is a success and meet its specifications
