The United States delivered 48 self-propelled Howitzer to the Pakistan Army on Saturday at the Malir Cantonment in the southern port city of Karachi, the U.S embassy said. The delivery marks the completion of a total purchase of 115 field artillery cannons by Pakistan through the U.S. foreign military sales/foreign military finance program, the embassy spokesman said. The FMS/FMF case was initiated by Pakistan in 2006 and enabled the government of Pakistan to obtain the cannons from the United States at a greatly discounted rate.
"These field artillery cannons are an important part of enhancing the capabilities of Pakistan's Army as it continues to wage its courageous fight against terrorists who seek to destroy Pakistan's people and way of life," said U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael Nagata, U.S. Office of the Defense Representative-Pakistan."It is our hope that these weapons are ultimately able to play an important role in ending extremist violence and bringing peace once again to this great nation," he said.
During the last three years, U.S. civilian and security assistance to Pakistan has totaled more than 4 billion dollars.Assistance provided and delivered has included support for medical aid, school refurbishment, bridge and well reconstruction, food distribution, agricultural and education projects, 14 F-16 fighter aircraft, 10 Mi-17 helicopters, more than 450 vehicles for Pakistan's Frontier Corps, hundreds of night vision goggles, day/ night scopes, radios, and thousands of protective vests and first- aid items for Pakistan's security forces.
In addition, the U.S. funded and provided training for more than 370 Pakistani military officers in a wide range of leadership and development programs covering topics such as counterterrorism, intelligence, logistics, medical, flight safety, and military law.U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Michael Nagata, U.S. Office of the Defense Representative-Pakistan deputy commander, officially handed over the M1095A5 self-propelled Howitzer to Pakistan Army Brigadier Farrukh Saeed, 25th Mechanized Division Artillery Commander, during a ceremony in Karachi. I wonder if the Americans know what they are doing. Giving F-16, Cobras, billions of dollars yadayadayada, to the Muslim state may not be a good idea as they can be used to fight the Indians is the future.
Man O man the Paks are really getting alot from from old Mr.red, white, and blue.
But I cannot wonder why after all this the Pak militia is still haveing a tough time with battle-weary militants.

firstly pakistan army was, is and always will be india centric and that refers to conventional warfare!!!! this is something new which pakistan army has mastered in a very small time frame!!!!!
for u to understand now look at the indian defense budget..... but tell me how difficult was for the indian security forces to handle 26/11.....
lastly american know Pakistan is there only chance of survival......
and please clarify ur statement about why pak should not get weapons!!!!!! u still believe india inducting weapons more advance then pakistan and india is still afraid!!!!!!
and for the forum for the american to succeed they will have to equip pakistan more..... and thats what the americans are doing!!!!!!
taiser,
just wanted to say one more thing....
it took decades for the srilankans to finish tamil tigers!!!!! india has been fighting the maoists, nexels etc..... for a very long time, till now india is unable to bring them in control,,,, in comparison to that,,,, pakistan army has done much better,,,,, past year ...operations in swat,,, it was cleared,,, south waziritan is cleared, buner, kurram agency, khyber agency, momand agency, etc all cleared!!!!! the myht of these people where the british failed to conquer them pakistan armed forces has broken that MYTH!!!!!!!
Its a great news for not only the country but also for the peace and balace of power in the region.
Dude SJ
Let me tell you something, India is a very very corrupted place. So corrupted that, in fact they have politicians with criminal records in gov, and they give reserved seats to people who cant even write there own name !!! Sometimes people join the gov just for kicks!!!
So, hence choice-making in India takes a long time to make a single choice.
And having an old lady as their prez doesnt help.
I dont know about SL though.
Another thing.
the Pak gov had decided to let the Taliban have Swat. Knowing this the Talib had thought that Pak was in no mood to fight so they went on a full-scale attack. If it wasnt for the donation of billions of dollars and weaponry the Talib would have had it there way.
