JF-17 Thunder multirole fighter jet jointly developed by Pakistan and China will be formally inducted in the Pakistan Air Force Today. Fourteen JF-17 Thunder jets will be inducted in the 26th squadron replacing old A-5 ground aircrafts. PAF has used some of these JF-17 Thunders in anti-terrorist missions in Waziristan in the testing and weapons qualification phases.
Initially 26th Squadron will be stationed in Kamra before moving to its operational base in Peshawar. A-5s of 26th Squadron have been grounded and will be replaced by JF-17 Thunder fighter jets. The inaugural ceremony the new squadron will be held today in Kamra which will be attended by Chief of the Air Staff of the Pakistan Air Force, Air Marshal Rao Qamar Suleman and other dignitaries. Additional JF-17 Thunders will be added in this squadron in coming weeks as some aircrafts are in their finals phase of completion.

Congratulations to all Pakistani's its a great achievment of PAC and Pakistani Defence Industry
Hopefully we will also get the TOT of FC-20 and say good bye to F-16's...
No doubt western tecnology is very advanced but there are so many other and even better aircrafts than F-16's.
Pakistan defence should procure equipment from USA but beaware of Future US Embargoes.
congrats to pakistan and PAF.....
1 great step towards self reliance.....
@ salman dont worry dude let the american put on more embargoes.....
they did it with f16 we made jf17,,, so its okay!!!! we know if we cant get it we will make it!!!!!
but i believe this time there wont be any embargoes because USA really need us this time....( many reasons cant discuss)
AMERICANS ARE IN NO MOOD ON EMBARGOING PAKISTAN AND PAKISTAN IS NO MOOD TO COMMIT TO ONE SUPPLIER.
PAKISTAN IS IN A POSITION TO CHOOSE FROM THE BEST.
JF-17 IS AN EXAMPLE
MOST OF THE WORRIES HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OFF.J-10 & F-16 ARE A GOOD ADDITION.
PAKISTAN SHOULD GO FOR A TWIN ENGINE DEEP INTRODUCTION ATTACK AIRCRAFT MY OWN CHOICE WILL BE J-11B. IF YOU LOOK AT THE INDIAN NAVAL BUILDUP THIS HAS BECOME AN ABSOLUTE NECESSITY .FOR THIS REASON MIG-29 AND SU27/30 ATTRACT ME A LOT.AIRCRAFT IN THIS CATAGORY ARE AVALIBLE IN THE USED SALE MARKET.
LOOKING AT OUR OWN CAPABILITY PAK CAN MANAGE.
I just wonder why Pakistan (and Pakistanis) is so satisfied with their performance in weapon-modernization. What does the JF-17 compete to? HAL Tejas? If yes, what does Pakistan have to counter Su-30s? And what they have to counter Su-PAK FA?
Just see this:
http://www.ausairpower.net/JSF-Bug-Su-30.gif
Is there any Pakistani aircraft available to compete to Su-30? I guess no.
@edurazee....
no doubt the su 30 aircraft is a a hell of an aircraft,,,, it wins against any aircraft!!!!! but there is only one problem it is not UAV!!!! there is pilot in it!!!! so,,,, if it is BVR fight everyone here will agree the range would count for nothing because of low distances between pakistan and india!!!!! and then come to dogfight!!!! that is i would say will be the pilot with more better training,, stamina and vision!!!!!
because it was the same PAF who shot down israelis and the soviets if u dont agree i ll tell u of a person colonel Rudskoi Alexander Vladirovich,,, he was shot down by a pakistani pilot,,, he survived and was made POW and then after his release h became the vice president of russia in 1991.....
I also found this:

@SJ
And in today's hi-tech world, dog-fight is never an option we can take into account.
Do you think that Su-30 would engage itself in dog-fight? Nahh! It would shoot a BVR missile.
Whether it is BVR capability or SAM, India is still clearly ahead. And Pakistan is unable to counter that threat. And things are getting worse for them.
USA has hung the F-16 Block 52 carrot again as they did in the 80s while offering India Block 60+. Western companies are getting free access to Indian arms market, while Pakistan's only hope is China. Would you tell me to compare a fully armed F-16 Block 60+ to a J-10? Then I am not convinced at all. And how about the Su-PAK FA punch?
@ edurazee.... i dont disagree on the option of india having less modern equipment!!!! okay tell me in this modern time the army is still taught bennit fighting.... and now a days u have long range weapons but cant rule out bennit fight!!!!!!
secondly the range is not a problem!!!! for ur knowledge do u know what is the reaction time of pakistan to counter the indian air attack that is 3 min.... now tell me the two borders are joined maximum engagements less then 100 nautical miles.... pakistan also has BVR.... and in case of surgical strikes u have to come in close to air to air combat!!!! u can change the rule of engagements but in the end its upto the old fashion fight!!!!!!!
okay do u remember a stealth ( ithink f117) was shot down but a man pad..... well thats the thing weapon systems are not lethal,,, its the operator which makes it lethal!!!!!!
and edurazee it not how quickly enter a weapons system in your inventory its how much u absorb it!!!!! u will induct an f16 block 60 in a matter of no time but do u know how long it will take for india to absorb the weapons sytem!!!!!
about su pak fa!!!! a bautiful aircraft no doubt but it still to come and if ibris radar a pesa can identify a f22 then i dont think it will be a big problem as stealth doesnot mean u cant see it but has low cross section!!!!! and that is quoted from redflag exercise.......
and lastly the major thing is the manning ratio of airforce in which india is short....
and another thing the biggest problem of india is the variety of aircrafts it has..... due to that pilots are burdened( aircarft conversion) the techincal crew is burdened ( variety of aircrafts) and india does not have a good first level trainer,,,, u cant put rookie pilot on jet aircraft on the first day!!!!! so its not just about aircarft its also about the things realted to it!!!!!!
For edurazee
I cannot understand as how Americans have hung a carrot and what is hanging for the Indians Russians will milk the Indians dry to get the PAk-FA flying.
Su30 is a Russian aircraft India like Pakistan if we buy the Su27 or J-11B will be an End User.
I should clearifiy some of the misperception about Pakistan
(Pakistan aeronautical complex Kamra) Produces Saab Mf-17(Mushaq)
This is a basic trainer for the P.A.F.
Pakistan army uses it as a Laison Aircraft.
Pakistan has some Export sucess and has exported to its triditional Allies.
The number produced is between 300 to 400 This is a user friendly and a very safe Aircraft.
The Indian Air Force has its basic trainer but we know I.A.F is not satisfied.
Fatal crashes of this type are occasionaly reported by your press
I.A.F is going for the Embrier or Pc-7 type Aircraf a very expensive option.
P.A.F is doing wepon tests of JF-17 flying real combat missions with standoff Bombs of Chinese & pakistani make.
It also carries the chinese SD-10 BVR better than the Russian Vmpyl R-73 for its protection.
Please give me an update on the Tejas LCA when and in which role will this plane fly.
It looks like the good old days for H.A.L & its creation the infamous MEERUT..have returned
And please give a tentive date on this MULTI ROLE Bird starting Squardon service.
Real success indeed whatever it is. It seemed pakistan has learnt lessons from 1971 war. Lets hope they wont trust america completely in future for arms and keep on going for self reliance.

The JF17 program seems to progress quite smoothly over the years. Bravo & congrats to the PAF.
@SJ
@Shafqat
Is Pakistan developing its technology only to counter India? I don't want to hope so. Pakistan should be struggling to emerge as a regional power. And in that respect, Pakistan is quite lagging behind. I don't want to focus on the question 'Why' or 'How'. I just want to ask whether you are aware of that.
The JF-17 does remind me of the F-20 Tigershark in profile. No doubt, there are many similarities in performance, too.
One thing I noted with Russian equipment is that they tend to be maintenance intensive. I hope this aircraft isn't, & that they did put a lot of forethought into making it easy to maintain. No matter how good a fighter is, if it's not available for missions, then it's just a target.
