India to Discuss Development Schedule for PAK FA, Russia’s Fifth Generation Fighter

After favouring the U.S. for its recent purchases of hi-tech military equipment, India has now turned to Russia, its old supplier, for the next generation fighter aircraft.PAK FA, Russia’s fifth generation fighter, which boasts of radar evasion characteristics, made its maiden flight only late last month.India inked an agreement with Russia for jointly developing this aircraft, but the time taken to complete the paperwork meant that 70 per cent of the plane was already developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau. Now India has planned to enter the project mid-way. It will discuss the development schedule for the coming years and the number of aircraft it requires with Deputy Prime Minister and Russia’s India point man S.S. Sobyanin when he visits India by the middle of this month, senior government sources said.............Hindu

China has noticeably been left out of the PAK FA project, thanks to its long history of unauthorized reversed-engineering the high-tech military hardware that they purchased.

Technology is accumulative with periodic breakthroughs. It will take some time for PAK FA to catch up to F22’s solid 5G benchmark; it will most likely take the Chinese even long for their proposed J.XX to materialize. China would need to carry the financial burden and pursue the [no fewer than half a dozen] technical breakthrough alone to achieve 5G standard.

no matter whatever the foolish indians may say about the so called natural friendship between two worlds largest democracies(ie usa & india),russia is still the friend india can depend, the same cannot be said for usa.

@ 2010
On the contrary the Russian's offered China co development of the PAK FA, but China declined because of their experience with Russia keeping the important technologies to themselves, and using "partners" just as a source of finance. (Not to mention many programme delays and unsatisfactory Russian maintenance schemes).

Also was the reason that they had confidence in their own military industrial capabilities to develop a 5th generation fighter, but hey whatever floats your boat.
The J-XX is said to fly either this year or next - no later than 2012. Don't worry, we'll all rub it in your faces when it makes it's first flight.

Don't hold your breath, Eric Z.

If wishes were horses, beggars would ride...

If a crack of whip was all it took to frogmarch a nation, the Chinese Commie politbureau would have achieved it a long time ago.

"Russian offered...Chinese declined...."

"They [the PRC] had confidence in their own military industrial capabilities to develop a 5th generation fighter... no later than 2012."

These sound more like a wishes and rationalization than facts or even educated guesses. But, hey, you are right; whatever floats your boat, Eric Z.

Yes I agree with Eric Z China should have very rightly refused it. Why to waste money for nothing as India is doing in this case. Eric is right there wont be any technology transfer, russia wont give any technology to india at all.Russia is just after poor indians money.

MR.Naeem Akhter FIRST WE GOT COMPLETE TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER SU-30MKI AND IT IS TALIOR MADE FOR INDIAN SPECIFICATION.MORE OVER IAF IS HAPPY. THICK ABOUT BRAHMOS CRUSE MISSILE IT IS THE FASTEST MISSILE IN THE WORLD. INDIAN ARMY IS HAPPY WITH IT.WHEN INDIAN ARE NOT WORRIED ABOUT IT WHY YOU PEOPLE ARE SO WORRIED?....
I THICK IT JEOLOSUY.

Pakfa is a joint project between Russia nad India all TOT will took place from both sides as Russia is leader in titanium alloys, engines, weapons and India is leader in carbon composites, softwares, weapon systems, cockpit equipments etc. Also it was earlier stated that India will share 25 percent of the whole project. India has already said they are contributing 5 to 10 billion $ for the development. so, there is no question that there will be no technology transfers
Moreover to make tis project successfull Russia deadly needs new partners like in JSF program US needs. 250 fighters each are already ordered by both Russia and India.
Just to remind u that India has already started working on its own 5th generation fighter AMCA(advanced medium combat aircraft) Also if we can send rockets and probes to moon to dicover water on it then a fifth generation fighter is a very small technology in front of it..........

So,Naeem U guys just take care of ur poor and illiterate peoples just by drilling oil from earth and begging some dollars from america u cant be a civilised society.

Rest assured that PRC 5G will reach IOC after PAK.FA and that its capability would almost certainly be a tab behind PAK.FA's.

This is technology, not politics. It's not like the more patriotic you are, the more advanced your country's proposed project is going to get. Different buckets of factors at play here. India made an excellent decision to team up with Russia on PAK.FA; there's nothing wimpy but everything pragmatic about it.

Here is an interesting article on the development of potential PLA LO fighter and transport. Very interesting geometries.
