ROME - Italy's Alenia Aermacchi has delivered eight MB-339CM trainer aircraft to the Royal Malaysian Air Force, the firm said Dec. 3, following an 88 million euro ($132.8 million) order placed in late 2006.
The deal covers aircraft, spare parts, ground equipment and two years of support, as well as pilot training, which began in Italy at the start of 2009, the firm said. The aircraft were delivered in batches, with the last two aircraft flying from Aermacchi's facility in Venegono, Italy, on Nov. 28.
In its new CM configuration, which is based on the CD version used by the Italian Air Force, the two seat, single-engine trainer is equipped with embedded training simulation, digital mapping and new safety features. Malaysia has operated the MB-339 in its previous 'A' configuration for more than 20 years. The CM trainer also boasts a head-up display and three multifunctional displays, as well as an air refueling probe.
