The mistrust with which India views China has taken a toll on Mumbai’s weather prediction mechanism. Not only has the installation of the doppler radar — imported from China — been put on hold, but the radar itself has been sent back to Delhi.
The China-made radar, lying unused for more than six months at the compound of the weather bureau office in Colaba, was shifted to Delhi in the last week of December. The administration was forced to take this decision after the defence ministry vetoed a proposal to allow a team of Chinese officials to visit the high-security zone in Mumbai to instal the radar.
Officially, however, said it was a ‘‘technical problem’’ that led to the development. ‘‘We have moved the radar to Delhi as there was some technical problem,’’ IMD-Mumbai deputy director-general of meteorology R V Sharma said. The doppler radar was slated to be installed atop a building called Archana in Navy Nagar. The defence ministry had no objection to the installation of the radar but said no Chinese national could be allowed in the restricted zone, a senior Mantralaya official told TOI.
The Maharashtra government took up the matter with higher-ups at the Centre. TOI was the first paper to report about this problem when chief minister Ashok Chavan wrote a letter, seeking to expedite the process of giving clearance to Chinese scientists for their visit to Mumbai to instal the radar. ‘‘But the Centre denied permission for security reasons,’’ the Mantralaya official added.

Wont get money back, because buyer or installer is to blame rather then supplier esp if discrimination is the reason. Last uproar was over India buying 128it encrytion device from China. Maybe next time buy from America you will get political points with American politicians.
Whether or not we will get political points with American politicians, the lack of trustworthiness of China is proven beyond any doubt. You can keep the money buddy and feel good about it. India needs US for high tech products and please do not kid yourself that anyone considers China as a serious maker of high tech stuff.
what now? the indians cant install a radar on roof top :D

That is not the case, roof top is Chinese specialty. Indians are into chimney installations. Issue with the Chinese in this case is little complex. They believe in "no tikki (ticket) no wash (laundry)". Indians have lost the ticket.
erm no...there is a diff reason to putting this on the roof..the problem was that doppler radar needs a lot of space that is no obstruction like buildings in front of them as it hampers weather readings..so since there was hardly any space available for doppler radar, they decided to put this on the roof in navy nagar...
The main reason is china is un trust able one nowadays , its the result of anti-india move of china
Its the Result of anti-indian movement by china .
This is the result for China's Anti-indian move.

Who bought it? No one forced Indian Met to buy it. Did they?
Weather radar is not meant to be high tech. If India needs to buy Radars from China, it negatively reflects on India, right? Go on trust the Americans, they seem to be courting Pakistan too, good friends they are.
